ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Reinhardt rising sophomore Jacob Profit helped the Alpharetta Aviators (22-11) earn their first championship in history with an 8-3 win over the Columbus Chatt-a-Hoots (15-19) in game two of the Sunbelt Championship at Golden Park Saturday night in Alpharetta.
The Warner Robins, Ga., native – who went 3-for-4 in the championship finale for the Aviators – was named Championship MVP after going a combined 5-for-8 with two stolen bases in the series.
"Winning the championship and being Championship MVP for the SBL is definitely an honor," Profit said. "There's no better feeling than coming out on top. I'm very proud of the way my team fought each pitch. I'm also thankful for my coaches, as I learned a lot from them this summer – and without them – none of this would have been possible. I look forward to continuing learning more about the game and seeing my hard work pay off."
Back at home in Waleska, Profit's head coach on the diamond, Jonathan Burton, couldn't have been prouder about how Profit represented the Eagles this summer.
"What an honor for a young man who does everything and more," Burton said. "We are expecting Jacob to continue to improve and play meaningful baseball for our team as we continue to build this program into one of the nation's best.
"We are so proud of this achievement that he rightfully earned… Helping his team win a championship by playing in a variety of roles this summer."
