Pangborn Dominates as Reinhardt Blanks CIU in AAC Elimination Game
Kingsport, Tenn. - Reinhardt Baseball rode a dominant start from Ty Pangborn and a pair of timely home runs to a 7-0 win over CIU on Wednesday in Kingsport, Tenn. The Eagles broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, then added another three-run burst in the sixth to take control. The loss sent CIU home; however, the Eagles will have to continue winning to stay in the tournament as well.
The decisive stretch came in the fourth. Cade Chamlee put Reinhardt in front with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Ethan Moore for the game's first run. Two batters later, Cannon Dorsey drove a two-run homer to right field, pushing the lead to 3-0 and giving Pangborn room to work. Reinhardt added more separation in the sixth when Jackson Rains sent a three-run home run to left, extending the advantage to 6-0.
Juan Pablo Morales helped lead the offense from the top of the lineup, finishing 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, and two walks. His RBI double to right-center in the seventh inning capped the scoring at 7-0. Rains went 2 for 5 with three RBIs, and Dorsey finished 2 for 5 with two RBIs as Reinhardt collected 10 hits, drew seven walks, and produced all seven of its runs without committing an error.
Pangborn set the tone throughout. The Reinhardt starter worked eight shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out 14 on 109 pitches. CIU managed just three runners left on base and never found sustained offense against him. Reinhardt's pitching staff finished the shutout with a one-hit performance over nine innings.
