WALESKA, Ga. – Union (Ky.) came to the Brown Athletic Center and ended the Eagles' winning streak in a physical Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest, 86-71, on Saturday evening.
The hometown squad is still sitting near the top of the league standings but is now 10-4 overall and 5-3 within AAC action.
Jalin Wimberly paced the offensive scoring with 19 points and six rebounds.
"Guys battled tonight and I'm really proud of them," head coach Justin Newton said. "Union was more desperate than we were and played that way. Have to give Coach Burton and his team credit as they were really prepared. We got in foul trouble early and dug ourselves in a hole defensively and just couldn't get out. We had some timely mistakes, and Union took us out of our rhythm, so we just couldn't get it going… We will see those guys again.
"We'll win a lot of games this year and we aren't going anywhere – we'll be ready."
Stats of the Night
- Joining Wimberly in double digits was Moses Jones (off the bench) with 16 and Kristian Collins with 10.
- The AAC clash combined for 50 turnovers and nearly 70 charity shots.
- The game was also the most physical in recent memory with a combined 61 fouls between the two clubs.
- The hosts were strong at getting to the line (42 attempts), but left points on the court with only 28 makes.
- The Bulldogs were able to separate themselves from the Eagles when the game got tight with clutch 3-pointers, making several of their nine treys on momentum-swinging possessions.
The Knights of St. Andrews (N.C.) await visiting Reinhardt on Dec. 12 at 5 p.m.
