By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Kristian Collins was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's (AAC) Newcomer of the Year – while also being placed on the All-AAC Second Team – and was joined in the all-league recognition by Jalin Wimberly (Second Team; All-Defensive), the AAC announced Wednesday night.
All three players played key roles in Reinhardt's resurgence in 2020-21 en route to an 18-7 overall record (13-6 AAC) and the No. 1 seed in the AAC Championship.
Collins paced the Eagles' widespread scoring attack with 13.8 points per game and 4.7 rebounds each time out. He set a career high in field goals made (10) and points (26) against Montreat (N.C.) on Feb. 2.
Next in line on the scoring chart for Reinhardt was Wimberly, who came in at 12.9 points on average to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists. The junior from Leesburg, Ga., was a lockdown defender who collected 40 steals and made life difficult on opposing offenses in the AAC.
