Roadrunners Take Out Eagles in Day Two of Canyons Classic
Waleska, GA - In Day Two of the Canyons Classic Hosted by Reinhardt Men's Basketball, the schedule had Ave Maria facing Johnson University in the first game of the day. It was a close contest throughout before the Gyrenes gained a two-possession lead in the final thirty seconds. Ave Maria picked up the second win in as many days, 89-82 over the Royals.
The second game of the day had the Eagles facing the #18-ranked Dalton State Roadrunners. The game saw the Eagles struggling to keep pace with the Roadrunners, ultimately falling with a final score of 104-64 and giving the team its fourth loss of the season
From the onset, Dalton State took an early lead with Qualen Pettus scoring the first points through a layup. The Eagles managed some resistance, highlighted by Tucker Lowe hitting an early 3-pointer. However, Dalton State's offensive power surged as they piled on points through layups and jumpers, taking a substantial 24-point lead in the first half. The half ended with Dalton State leading 52-28.
In the second period, Dalton State, led by Tripp Beatty and Kota Benson, maintained their dominance. Their swift transitions allowed for easy baskets, extending their lead to 40 points. Despite efforts from Reinhardt's top point scorers—Tucker Lowe with 15 points, AJ Shaw with 9 points, and Arael Jones with 11 points—the Eagles could not close the significant gap.
Dillon Fulwood was just outside of double-figure scoring for Reinhardt with 8 points, shooting 3-5 from the field and pulling down 5 rebounds.
Looking ahead, the Reinhardt University Eagles are set to play the Indiana East Red Wolves on Saturday at home as they search for their first win of this early season.
