Eagles Led from Start to Finish in Win over the Buffaloes
Waleska, GA - The Reinhardt Men's Basketball secured an impressive win against the Milligan Buffaloes with a final score of 80-68 on Monday evening at Brown Athletic Center. This was a make-up game from earlier in the season when the original game was postponed from a power outage in the Waleska area (off-campus). Reinhardt took control early in the game and never looked back as they played their most complete game of the season. The win gives the Eagles an important conference win, but also a mental boost to what has been a frustrating season so far. The team showed signs of really coming together, with contributions coming from several different players.
First Half Highlights:
Early in the game, Derrick Brown set the pace for the Eagles with a jumper that gave Reinhardt an early advantage. AJ Shaw contributed with a three-pointer early on, helping boost the team's momentum. Tee Williams was a significant scorer throughout the period, delivering multiple jumpers and a three-pointer. Notably, Williams' layup increased the Eagles' lead to 33-17. By the end of the first period, Reinhardt held a strong lead with a score of 40-28. Brown and Williams both had 10 points each at the halftime break, and both had crucial plays that allowed the Eagles to jump out to a commanding lead.
Second Half Highlights:
Reinhardt maintained their dominance in the second period with Derrick Brown scoring early points in the paint and executing a notable block followed by a defensive rebound. AJ Shaw's assist on a three-pointer further solidified the Eagles' lead. Tee Williams continued to impress with another jumper that extended their lead further. Bryan did make a small comeback to bring the game to within 10 points in the final four minutes of the game, but freshman Areal Jones would not allow it as he would hit several jumpers in a row to get the lead back up. By the final minutes, the Eagles had widened their lead to 20 points and concluded the game at 80-68.
Game Summary:
Top Performances came from Tee Williams with 21 points, followed closely by Derrick Brown with 17 points, who also led defensively with 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Arael Jones provided valuable support off the bench, scoring 18 points mainly in the second half of the match. Williams was the consistent motor that drove the team throughout, but the play by Brown in the first half and Jones in the second half allowed the Eagles to pick up the much-needed win!
Reinhardt shot almost 59% from the field in the game, which is their best shooting percentage of the season. They also shot 40% from the three-point line, going four of ten from three-pointers. Brown and Sousa led the team with 8 rebounds each, and Nehki Fisher was just shy of double-digits, scoring 9 points. Forward Blake Seitz had significant contributions, pulling down 7 boards to help the Eagles keep their lead.
The Eagles' next game is scheduled against Bryan College this Wednesday on the road in Tennessee. The women will get the night started at 5:30 pm versus the Lions and the men will follow immediately following the women's game. The team aims to continue its momentum, currently holding an AAC conference record of 2-2.
