Seven Former Eagles Perform Well at the 2023 Georgia Open Pro Golf Tournament
Richmond Hill, GA - Six former Reinhardt golfers participated and placed in the Georgia Open golf tournament held at The Ford Field & River Club golf course on August 3rd - 6th.
Kameron Williams, Chris Cartwright, Ben Dulin, Chris Nicol. Dan Merriman, Brooks Gineris , and Tyler Hayes all participated this past weekend at the event. Kameron Williams who is a '18 alumni of Reinhardt won the tournament. Williams shot a 6-under par 66 in the final round to take the title and he finished 17 under for the entire tournament shooting a 271. He was rewarded with a $9000 payout for first place and the title of Golf Pro Payments Georgia Open Champion! Cartwright, Dulin, Nicol, Merriman, and Gineris were all able to make the final cut and place at the tournament.
Williams started the day one shot behind third-round leader, PGA Professional Greg Edwards of Gainesville, but quickly took the lead after birdies on the third and fifth holes. He extended his lead after birdies on eight and nine to make the turn three ahead of Edwards and the tournament quickly became a two-horse race. Edwards birdied the 10th, 11th, and 14th to get within one shot. Williams was able to birdie the 15th while Edwards made a bogey making the lead three heading into the final stretch. Williams was able to cruise to the victory on the final two holes and win his first Georgia Open by two shots in front of a great crowd at The Ford Field and River Club.
Chris Cartwright who was a 2011 graduate of Reinhardt finished in 6th place. He was a top golfer for Reinhardt during his time on campus and he recently won the Georgia PGA Professional Championship in 2022.
Ben Dulin, '18 Reinhardt Alum from Atlanta, finished in 17th position. Chris Nicol finished in 38th position and currently lives in Hope, GA. Dan Merriman and Brooks Gineris finish out the remaining spots for the Eagles placing at the Georgia Open finishing in 55th and 60th positions respectively. Gineris is the youngest of this group and the most recent graduate of Reinhardt. He graduated in 2023 after playing four years for Coach Evans Nichols for Reinhardt Golf where he won several tournaments over the years and was always a top-five golfer for Reinhardt. Gineris is currently working on his Master's Degree at West Georgia College and University in Carrollton, GA, and is using his 5th year of eligibility to play one more year of college golf.
Williams was asked what winning the tournament meant to him and he replied, "It means a lot! I've grown up in Georgia, went to College in Georgia, and now I'm honored to say Im the 2023 Georgia Open Champion!"
