Reinhardt Uses Depth and Experience to Defeat Montevallo 26-15
Waleska, GA - Reinhardt University rode depth across the lineup and a string of key decisions to a 26-15 dual victory over Montevallo in a 10-bout matchup at Reinhardt University (Ga.). The Eagles took seven of the 10 bouts, using one forfeit, one technical fall and several hard-earned decisions to offset three technical falls from Montevallo.
The dual opened in Reinhardt's favor at 125 pounds, where Ty Gentry was awarded a forfeit to stake the Eagles to an early 6-0 lead. Reinhardt quickly added to that advantage behind one of its most dominant performances of the day, as Lee Camp secured a 17-2 technical fall at 133 pounds, worth five team points, to push the margin to 11-0. Camp had one of the best performances of the day sparking a run by the Eagles. Camp will be one to watch as the AAC Tournament and NAIA Nationals come around.
Montevallo answered in the middle weights with its own bonus-point efforts. Carson Freeman got the Falcons on the board with a technical fall, 19-3, in 4:24, and teammates Jakob Chisolm and Jeffery Tubbs followed with technical falls of their own. Chisolm posted a 20-5 technical fall in 7:00, and Tubbs capped Montevallo's scoring surge with a 26-10 technical fall, also in 7:00. Those three wins accounted for all 15 of Montevallo's team points and kept the Falcons within striking distance on the scoreboard.
Reinhardt, however, controlled the balance of the dual through steady work in the remaining bouts. At 141 pounds, Caden McCrary delivered one of the pivotal victories of the day, grinding out a 4-1 sudden-victory overtime decision. His win added three team points and halted Montevallo's momentum in an overtime situation that could have swung either way.
The Eagles continued to build their lead with a series of decisions. Garrett Pace earned a 7-3 decision, while Nathan Bukovich added a 5-1 decision to keep Reinhardt's team score moving steadily upward. In the upper weights, Aaron Riner battled to a 9-6 decision, and heavyweight Caleb Pruitt closed out the dual with a 5-1 decision, sealing the 26-15 final margin.
As a team, Reinhardt finished with seven bout victories, including Camp's technical fall, McCrary's sudden-victory win and the early forfeit to Gentry. Montevallo's three match wins all came via technical fall, but the Falcons were unable to generate additional results in the remaining bouts. The combination of early bonus points and consistent decision wins across multiple weight classes proved decisive for the Eagles.
The performance at home underscored Reinhardt's balance up and down the lineup and its ability to secure crucial decisions even when facing opponents capable of scoring in bunches. With the 26-15 win, the Eagles demonstrated a dual-meet formula built on depth, conditioning and the capacity to navigate tight matches in their favor. The team will now set its focus on the AAC Tournament coming up in a couple of weeks. This year, the AAC will be held at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida, on February 20th-21st.
