KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Golden Tigers of Brenau (Ga.) held off the hungry Eagles who forced the if-necessary contest within the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship on Friday with a 10-0 final in five innings to claim the AAC banner at the Brickyard Ball Fields in Kingsport, Tenn.
No. 25 Reinhardt (41-13) left it all on the diamond and went 2-1 on the tournament's last day en route to the winner-take-all battle.
The league's eighth seed started play on Monday with a blanking and ended the action on Friday evening with another shutout. The Golden Tigers surrendered just four hits in the victory while gathering 12 of their own and posting runs in the first (2), second (3) and third (5).
"We had a couple of big wins today and one big loss that we will improve from moving forward," head coach Jade Geuther said. "It's obviously not the way we wanted to end the day, but we did what we needed to do this week to set ourselves up for a good spot in the national tournament."
Alise Hooks was 2-for-2 in defeat, and Megan Huss and Emily Loveless earned the other pair of base-hits.
Hooks also had a stolen base.
The team now awaits word on its potential selection into the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round in the near future.
