Baseball team opens 2011 season with 6-2 loss to Mid-Continent; same clubs play doubleheader on homecoming Saturday
Mid-Continent began the scoring with two runs in the top of the second inning but Reinhardt tied the contest in the bottom half. The Cougars went ahead 3-2 in the third inning and tacked on three more runs in the ninth.
MCU outhit the Eagles 12-4 and left 13 runners on base. The guests made two errors and Reinhardt one.
For the Eagles, Don DiPetta (double), Cory Cox (RBI) and Michael Lonati each went 1-for-3. Jay Huffman had a hit and scored while Brett Flick walked and also came around to score.
Zach Bennett was the starting and losing pitcher for Reinhardt after going 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and one walk. Taylor Smith pitched three scoreless innings while Ricky Johnson went 2 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run.
The Eagles host Mid-Continent, now 2-0 overall, in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. during Reinhardt's homecoming.
