Baseball team suffers 11-8 loss to Truett-McConnell; same squads square off in doubleheader on Saturday
Reinhardt scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and three in the second, building a quick 5-0 lead. Truett-McConnell went ahead with a six-run third inning but the Eagles tied the contest in the bottom half. Reinhardt went back on top 8-6 with a pair of runs in the fourth inning before the Bears concluded the scoring with five in the fifth.
The Eagles had a slight 11-10 edge in hits. Each squad committed two errors and left 10 runners on base.
For Reinhardt, Billy King was 3-for-5 with two runs scored while Don DiPetta went 2-for-4 with a home run, double, four RBIs and two runs scored. Brett Flick finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored while Jay Huffman tripled, walked twice and drove in a run. Ethan Starr added a double, two walks, a run scored and an RBI.
The Eagles used six pitchers in the game. Ben Gonglach started and went 2 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run with two strikeouts. Freshman CJ Oliva, the hosts' fourth hurler, was tagged with the loss. Kendric McDonald and Chris Fletcher combined to give up just one hit and no runs over the final 4 1/3 innings.
Reinhardt is 1-5 overall while TMC moves to 10-3. The Eagles host Truett-McConnell in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m.
