Baseball team on short end of 9-5 score at Southern Wesleyan; same squads play doubleheader on Saturday
Southern Wesleyan scored four times in the bottom of the first inning and added a run in the third for a 5-0 lead. In the fourth inning, each squad came up with a pair of runs, making it a 7-2 game. Reinhardt came back with a run in the fifth inning and scored twice in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 7-5, before the Warriors concluded the scoring with two runs in the eighth.
Each club finished with 11 hits, although the Eagles' were all singles and SWU collected 16 total bases. Reinhardt left 11 runners on base and Southern Wesleyan five. The hosts made two errors and the Eagles one, leading to a pair of unearned runs for each team.
Freshmen Alan Hardisty and Phillip Bates each had two hits and a run scored for Reinhardt while Michael Lonati went 1-for-1 with a run scored. Don DiPetta had a hit, an RBI and a run scored while freshman Andy Pringle, Ethan Starr, freshman Josh Clark and Zach Kles each singled and drove in a run. Brett Flick added a hit and a run scored.
On the mound for the Eagles, Jake Waters started and suffered the loss after pitching three innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Kendric McDonald threw 2/3 inning before Ben Gonglach gave up three hits and no earned runs with a strikeout and no walks over the final 4 1/3 innings.
Reinhardt slips to 3-8 overall while the Warriors move to 7-7. The same teams play a non-conference doubleheader at SWU on Saturday at noon.
