Baseball squad pounds Waldorf 17-4; same teams square off on Wednesday at Ken White Baseball Field
Waldorf scored three times in the top of the first inning before Reinhardt surged ahead 7-3 with a run in the bottom half and six runs in the second. In the third inning, the Warriors pushed a run across before the Eagles took control with five runs, making the score 12-4. Reinhardt added two runs in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth. The contest ended in the middle of the seventh inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.
The Eagles outhit their guests 13-6, took advantage of 12 walks and left 10 runners on base. There were five errors in the game, including three by Reinhardt.
At the plate for the Eagles, Brett Flick ended 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored while Zach Kles was 3-for-5 with a home run, six RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Freshman Nate Toups went 1-for-1 with a two-run double while Ethan Starr finished 1-for-3 with two bases on balls, five RBIs and three runs scored.
Taylor Smith was Reinhardt's starting pitcher and went one inning with a strikeout. Freshman Jeff Roberts threw the final six innings for the win, giving up four singles and one run while striking out three and walking one.
The Eagles move to 4-12 overall while Waldorf is 4-5. The same clubs meet again at Reinhardt on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
