Baseball team records shutout win after AAC loss to Virginia Intermont, on road to face Young Harris on Tuesday
The first game was scoreless through five innings before Virginia Intermont came up with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Reinhardt scored once in the bottom of the sixth inning, making the score 2-1, but the Cobras posted three runs in the seventh.
VIC outhit the Eagles 12-2 and made one error. Reinhardt was guilty of four errors, leading to four unearned runs for the guests. Virginia Intermont left 10 runners on base and the Eagles four.
Michael Lonati finished 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI for Reinhardt while freshman Tucker Adams was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
In the pitching department, Josh Wilson got the start and was the tough-luck loser for the Eagles. He went six innings, allowing no earned runs with six strikeouts and two walks. Freshman Wil Hogan and Kendric McDonald pitched in relief.
The only scoring in the second contest came when Reinhardt plated three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
The Cobras ended with a 6-5 edge in hits and each team committed an error. VIC stranded nine base runners and the hosts five.
Offensively for the Eagles, Jay Huffman went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles while Lonati was 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored. Zach Kles contributed a two-run double.
Ben Gonglach was the starting and winning pitcher for Reinhardt, giving up five hits with two strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings. Freshman CJ Oliva earned a save by tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out one.
The Eagles are 7-12 overall and 2-1 in the AAC while Virginia Intermont is 5-18 overall, including 1-2 in conference action. Reinhardt is on the road to face the Young Harris College Mountain Lions in a non-conference game on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Young Harris, Ga.
