Baseball team comes from behind for 13-10 conference win at Bryan; same squads square off in AAC doubleheader on Saturday
Bryan scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and three more in the third, taking a commanding 9-0 lead. Reinhardt responded with seven runs in the fourth inning and six in the fifth, establishing a 13-9 advantage. The Lions added the contest's final run in the eighth inning.
The Eagles had a 13-9 edge in hits but committed five of the game's eight errors. Reinhardt left nine runners on base and Bryan four.
Offensively for the winners, Billy King was 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored while freshman Josh Clark also went 2-for-4. Michael Lonati finished 2-for-5 with a walk, two RBIs and pair of runs scored while Josh Wilson also had two hits in five at-bats, driving in a run and scoring another. Jay Huffman came up with two hits, including a double, three RBIs and a run scored while Zach Kles stroked a home run, walked and knocked in three runs.
Freshman Jeff Roberts got the start on the mound for the Eagles before giving way to Ryan McDowell, who pitched seven strong innings for the victory. McDowell allowed just three hits and two earned runs with eight strikeouts and one walk. Chris Fletcher threw a scoreless ninth inning, facing four batters, to earn a save.
Reinhardt moves to 11-18 overall and 4-3 in the AAC while the Lions slip to 20-12, including 3-4 in conference play. The same teams meet at Bryan on Saturday for an AAC doubleheader at 1 p.m.
