Baseball team defeated by Young Harris, travels to play same club on Wednesday
Seven runs were scored in the opening inning, four by the Mountain Lions and three by the Eagles. YHC added to its lead with three runs in the third inning, four in the fourth, and two in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh, moving ahead 17-3. The hosts tallied a run in the bottom of the seventh inning but the game ended due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Young Harris doubled Reinhardt in hits 16-8 and each squad committed two errors. The guests left nine runners on base and the Eagles eight.
For Reinhardt, freshman Phillip Bates went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Zach Kles was 2-for-4.
Ricky Johnson was the Eagles' starting pitcher and suffered the loss after throwing 3 1/3 innings with four strikeouts. Three other players pitched out of the bullpen.
Reinhardt dips to 15-22-1 overall while the Mountain Lions improve to 22-20. The same teams meet again on Wednesday at 6 p.m., but this time for a non-conference contest in Young Harris, Ga.
