Felger signs to attend Reinhardt, play baseball for Eagles
"Jay is a solid individual who has a fresh arm, and is a solid pitching prospect with tremendous upside," Ihlenburg said. "We are looking for him to contribute right away when he gets here. He is a welcome addition to our staff."
Felger, the son of Steve and Terri Felger, plays in one of the top Class AAAAA programs in the state. Since the school opened in 2001, Kennesaw Mountain has qualified for the state playoffs several times and won three region championships, finishing 31-6 overall and as the state runner-up in 2007. A starting pitcher for the Mustangs this season, Felger is 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA. In 21 innings, he has struck out 18 and walked six.
"Jay is an 85-86-type guy with a plus breaking ball," KMHS pitching coach Brian Nelson said. "Reinhardt will be getting someone that should compete for a spot as a freshman. Jay's biggest years pitching are ahead of him."
Felger visited the Reinhardt campus earlier this year and recently said, "This is the school for me. There is a small student-to-teacher ratio, and that's what I need. I definitely wanted to come here."
Felger considered attending NCAA Division II North Georgia College & State University and East Georgia College before choosing Reinhardt.
