Baseball team loses Senior Night game to West Georgia, travels to play Truett-McConnell on Wednesday
After the game, Reinhardt's seven senior players were honored as part of Senior Night. The Eagles' 2011 senior class includes Don DiPetta, Brett Flick, Ben Gonglach, Jay Huffman, Ricky Johnson, Billy King and Ryan McDowell.
West Georgia scored twice in the opening inning before Reinhardt trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first. The Wolves went ahead 3-1 with a run in the third inning but the Eagles tied things up in the bottom half. The score remained tied at 5-5 after each club scored two times in the fifth inning but UWG went up for good by scoring once in the sixth. West Georgia added five runs in the seventh inning and one run in the ninth.
The Wolves finished with a 13-11 advantage in hits. Reinhardt committed five errors that led to five unearned runs for the guests while UWG made two errors. The Eagles left eight runners on base and West Georgia four.
For Reinhardt, DiPetta was 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored while Huffman ended 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored. Zach Kles provided an RBI double.
Johnson got the start and took the loss for the Eagles after working 6 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Trent Sheffield pitched the final 2 1/3 innings.
Reinhardt falls to 15-27-1 overall while the Wolves are 16-25. The Eagles are right back in action on Wednesday when playing a non-conference contest at the Truett-McConnell College Bears. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Cleveland, Ga.
