Baseball team scores ninth-inning run in 6-5 win at Truett-McConnell, on road against AAC foe Tennessee Wesleyan this Friday
Truett-McConnell got out to a quick 2-0 lead after scoring twice in the first inning before Reinhardt tied the game with a pair of runs in the fourth. A three-run fifth inning put the Eagles up 5-2, but the Bears knotted the score again with three runs in the sixth. Reinhardt pushed an unearned run across in the top of the ninth inning on freshman Tucker Adams' hit that scored Josh Wilson.
The Eagles outhit TMC 10-7 and there were eight errors in the contest, including three by Reinhardt. Each squad stranded 11 base runners.
Adams finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs to pace the winners while Ethan Starr was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Don DiPetta went 2-for-4 with a walk and pair of runs scored.
On the mound, Taylor Smith started for the Eagles and gave up five hits in six innings with two strikeouts. Kendric McDonald, who pitched the seventh, and Brett Flick, who tossed the final two innings to earn the win, combined to shut out the hosts over the last three innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out two.
Reinhardt moves to 16-27-1 overall while the Bears are 22-24. The Eagles are on the road this Friday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference game against the Tennessee Wesleyan College Bulldogs, who received 16 points in this week's NAIA poll to rank 33rd nationally. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. in Athens, Tenn.
