Waleska, GA - The Eagles were back at it after winning the Friday night pitching duel against Spring Arbor. It was a cold and windy Saturday, but the sun was out and it was a good day for baseball at Ken White Field.
Game One
Daniel Lee would get the starting pitcher spot for the Eagles in game one of the doubleheader and he would have two solid innings only allowing 2 hits and getting 3 strikeouts. He held the Cougars scoreless in his two innings of work. He was relieved by Jordan Hampton in the third inning who pitched in five innings and picked up 3 strikeouts. Parker Miller would finish up the pitching duties for the Eagles as he would come in to pitch the eighth and ninth innings. Miller was able to get 3 strikeouts as well and allowed 2 hits.
In the bottom of the first, the Eagles would pick up their first run of the game when Patrick Baggett doubled to score Shayne Campbell. Reinhardt would be held scoreless until the sixth inning when Tucker Zdunich would get a long-bomb homerun off the Spring Arbor Pitching.
The final run for the Eagles would come off a sacrifice bunt which scored Lance Dockery. Reinhardt did get 7 hits in the game, but they did leave several players on the bases when runs could have been scored.
Patrick Baggett would go 3-2 hitting for the Eagles and Shayne Campbell would go 2 for 4 and scored one run. The game ended 3-4 in favor of the visiting Cougars, but there was no time for rest as the teams would face each other once more.
Game Two
The bats would come alive for the final game of the series as the Eagles would put ten runs on the board. They could have scored a few more as they had the bases loaded four times during the game.
Pablo Barquero would get to be on the mound for Reinhardt to start this second game and only gave up one run on the game in the third inning. Barquero is a solid starting pitcher for the Eagles and you can always expect a solid game pitching when he is on the mound. He started off allowing a few players on the bases, but he was able to pitch his way out of it not giving up a run. From that point on, Barquero was solid and pitched great baseball.
From the start of the first quarter, you would know that this game would be different than the last two. The Eagles would not waste time generating runs for the team. Tucker Zdunich would double to center field scoring Dawson Johns, Patrick Baggett, and Will Underwood. Later, Nick Sanders sac flyed to left field scoring Tucker Zdunich. Next, a passed ball by the Cougars pitching allowed Zdunich to cross homeplate. The score was 5-0 for the Eagles at the bottom of the first.
The next scoring barrage for the Eagles was in the bottom of the third where they would score five more runs. Xavier Arnette scored from third on a deep flyout by Nick Sanders. Later, Jarrett Burney would score on a throwing error by Spring Arbor. Cedric Cullars would pinch run for Alex Coulter in the third and scored one run. The bases were loaded at this point and Baggett drew a walk for the Eagles. Last, Will Underwood scored when a throwing error by the Spring Arbor second baseman.
The pitching staff of Barquero, Rogers, and Kern would do the resot of the work for the Eagles. Barquero ended up striking out eight batters and gave up 3 hits over his five innings of work. Blake Rogers would pitch one inning and give up only one hit. Jet Kern would get the final inning for the Eagles where he shutout the side and got two strikeouts.
The Eagles ended this series on a high note finishing game three with a 10-1 win. The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when Talladega comes in for a single game series. After the home game, the Eagles will be on the road for midweek game with Tennessee Southern and then a weekend series at Point University.
