Tough Night for Eagles Baseball
Dayton, TN - This is one that the Eagles will quickly put past them. It was a tough night for Reinhardt all the way around. The pitching gave up a lot of runs and the batters could not get runners across the plate. Bryan College would walk away with this one, 11-1.
The Eagles' Ace, Pable Barquero, would get the start in this game, but would only get one inning before being relieved. In his one inning, he would only give up one hit and hold Bryan scoreless. After the first inning, things began to get out of hand for the Eagles. Jordan Hampton would come in at the bottom of the second and gave up an early home run to the Lions, however, this would be the only run and hit during the inning. Hampton would get into some trouble in the third inning when the Eagles would give up six runs on four hits. One of the hits was another home run and this put the Eagles in an early hole down 7-0.
Jet Kern would come in and take over for Hampton in the fourth and he would have a pretty good start holding the Lions to no runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Kern would give up runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings with Bryan ending up with eleven total and the game being called for the "run-rule".
Usually, the Eagles can keep pace with the opposing teams when the pitching is a little off and several runs are being scored, however, this was not one of those nights. The Eagles were only able to get one run in the game in the fifth inning. The run came on a single by Jarrett Burney who scored Nick Sanders. Sanders had reached earlier in the game on a walk. This would be it for the Eagles for the night as the rare zeros were across the board in the other innings.
This is one of those games that you just put behind you and move on. The best part of games like this is that you know tomorrow there is another chance with the doubleheader day coming. The Eagles have been on a roll lately and it has shown by the wins against quality teams and the move back into the Top 25 of the NAIA. Look for the Eagles to rebound quickly tomorrow and come back strong in the doubleheaders with Bryan.
