Eagles Get One In Bryan Series
Dayton, TN - The Eagles' trip to Tennessee wasn't the outcome that they were hoping for - especially as the regular season is coming to a close. The Eagles were able to take one of the three-game series with Bryan as they take game two, 7-2. Game three would be very similar to Friday's game where the pitching gave up a lot of runs and the Eagles could not get their offense going. Game three final was 10-1 to Bryan.
Game Two (1st of the doubleheader)
Ethan Foley has had a terrific season and he continues to impress on the mound for the Eagles. He would get the start in game two and he would work his magic sitting down the Lions hitters. He was able to get 6 strikeouts in his complete nine-inning game and only allowed 7 total hits and 2 runs. The 2 runs came in the fifth inning, however, the Eagles had already made their mark on the game scoring 4 runs in the earlier innings. Foley would settle back down after this and finish the game out with eight shutout innings. Foley was magnificent in helping the Eagles salvage one game in the series.
Tucker Zdunich, Nick Sanders, and Albert Mora would lead the Eagles' offense in game two with each getting home runs. Zdunich would have two home runs with the first coming in the top of the fifth which scored Jacob Profit and Jarrett Burney. His second would come in the seventh inning and it was a solo. Sanders and Mora would go back-to-back solo homers in the sixth inning. Zdunich would also produce the other run in the game in the third when he singled to score Profit. This was all that Foley would need to secure the win for the Eagles.
Game Three (2nd of the doubleheader)
Game three was not so magical for the Eagles as they would only pick up one run in the game. The one run would come in the final seventh inning on a single by Lance Dockery, which scored Patrick Baggett. Baggett doubled a few batters earlier in the inning. This would be all the offense the Eagles could generate in this game as they had to play catch up from the bottom of the first inning.
The pitching combination of Hunter Paulsen, Parker Miller, and Blake Rogers would have a tough afternoon on the mound. The woes started early when the Lions were able to get 4 runs on 6 six hits in the first inning. Paulsen would be pulled after recording just one out in the first and Miller came in to replace him. Miller Would get in a little over three innings before he would give way to Rogers. Miller had 5 strikeouts in his three innings, but he would give up seven hits and 4 earned runs. Rogers would pitch the final two innings and he would get 2 strikeouts and only give up 2 hits and one run.
The first inning was too much for the Eagles to overcome with the offense not being able to get it going. This series will be one that the Eagles will try to put past them so they can move onto their final series of the regular season. The Eagles will be back on the road next Thursday and Friday as they wrap up the regular season with a series at Milligan. The Eagles still have a good record and have been playing really good baseball since the early season loss to Talladega back in February. The Eagles have gone 23-12 since that game and worked their way back into the NAIA Top 25. After the Milligan series, the Eagles jump right into the AAC Tournament where they have a team that can challenge for the tournament crown. There will be more information to come once the regular season ends next week.
