Eagles Baseball Top Bluefield to Move to Next Round of AAC
Kingsport, TN - The Eagles did what they needed to do to keep advancing in the AAC Baseball Tournament with a 7-6 win over the #7 seed, Bluefield Rams. With the win, the Eagles will stay in the winner's bracket and will face the Bryan Lions who defeated Point University. The game will start at approximately 4 pm on Thursday with the winner moving on to the semifinal game on Friday.
Parker Miller would get the starting spot in the game against Bluefield and he would go six innings before being relieved by Jet Kern. Miller would record 3 strikeouts in the six innings and give up 7 hits and 3 earned runs. Kern would have a tough time once he came in the game giving up 3 runs and recording zero outs. He was replaced in the same inning by Andrew Herbert who gave the Eagles two shutout innings with one hit and two strikeouts. The young lefthander, Hunter Paulsen, would come in to finish up the game in the ninth allowing zero runs, zero hits, and only one walk. Miller would get the win for the Eagles and Paulsen would pick up the save in the game.
The Eagles would have big innings in the fifth and sixth, which ended up being the winning runs for the Eagles. In the fifth, Tucker Zdunich would get the big hit as he has done all season for the Eagles. Zdunich's hit drove in Patrick Baggett and Cedric Cullars. Zdunich would go 1 for 4 in the game with the two RBIs. In the sixth inning, Dawson Johns would enter the game to pinch-hit for Xavier Arnette. Johns would smack a solid home run to left-center field giving the Eagles a 5-3 lead. Later in the inning, a wild pitch would score Nick Sanders who was on third and it moved Shayne Campbell to third base. Jacob Profit came up next and an error by the Rams shortstop allowed Profit to make it to first and Campbell to cross the plate giving the Eagles a good 7-3 lead. These would be the final runs for the Eagles and it would just be enough because the Rams picked up the three runs in the top of the seventh.
Cedric Cullars would lead the Eagles in hitting going 2 for 4 and Dawson Johns went 1 for 2 with the solo home run.
