Montgomery, AL - The Eagles' season came to an end on Wednesday evening after an eventful week of baseball. The week started off with a narrow loss to the bracket #1 team, Ottowa (KS), which the Eagles could have very easily won. Really, one inning in the game cost them the game - but that is baseball and you have to play the complete nine. The loss put them on the hard road through the loser's bracket where the Eagles clawed their way all the way to the bracket championship game. They took out Keiser (bracket #3) in a crazy game that will be remembered for a long time. Then the Eagles faced Ottowa once more and put them away 7-4 which pushed them into the championship game. The host team, Faulkner University, was waiting for them - rested and ready to go. Faulkner was able to stay in the winner's bracket all the way through so they enjoyed being able to sit back and watch the other three battle it out to see who would make it through.
In the championship game, the Eagles kept being scrappy and making things hard for the Eagles of Faulkner. The combination of Jordan Hampton, Hunter Paulsen, Jet Kern, and Parker Miller would pitch this one for the Eagles. Kern and Miller had the most success with Kern having three straight "3 up - 3 down" innings with 2 strikeouts. Miller would pitch 1.1 innings with two strikeouts. Each pitcher had some good moments, but they all ended up giving up a few runs. The first couple of innings ended up putting the Eagles in a hole that they had to dig out from the rest of the game, but the Eagles never quit. Even up to the last bat of the season, the Eagles had the runners on the base and the batter at the plate to tie the game. It was not meant to be this season for the Eagles and they ended up dropping the game 11-8 in a dogfight of a game.
Dawson Johns and Alex Coulter would both homer in the championship game and Nick Sanders would get a double. Johns would actually hit a home run in both games of the day. Patrick Baggett and Tucker Zduich would each have 2 RBIs a piece in the game.
