Waleska, GA - Pitching was the name of the game this weekend for the series with Johnson University as the Eagles would hold the Royals to just one run in the three games. Andrew Herbert did his part in game one on Saturday striking out eight batters and holding the Royals scoreless. Jordan Hampton would get his time on the mound for game two on Sunday afternoon and he would produce about the same results. In game three, Ethan Foley would get the start and he would strike out 8 batters as well. The Eagles won the first game on Sunday 7-0 and then 7-1 in the final game.
Doubleheader Game One
Jordan Hampton would pitch five innings and strike out five batters holding Johnson scoreless for the second day in a row. Hunter Paulsen would come in to pitch the final four innings of the game and he would get one strikeout and only allow one hit. Johnson was able to get runners on the bases at times, but the pitching and defense would step up to not allow any runs to be scored.
The offense did its job by getting runs in the first and third innings. Shayne Campbell had the big hit in the game which capped off a great third inning for the Eagles. Earlier in the inning, Jarrett Burney singled to score Nash Crowell and later Dawon Johns had a double which scored Burney and Dylan Lewis. In the first inning, Zach Rabe who has been on fire this season - singled to score both Lance Dockery and Jamel Rookard. Shayne Campbell led the Eagles going 2 for 4 in the game.
Doubleheader Game Two
Ethan Foley would keep the streak going for quality pitching over the series as he was in command of the game the whole way through. He struck out eight Royals and only allowed 4 hits in his six innings. Johnson did get a lucky strike on a Foley fastball that was hit out of Ken White, but that was the only real blemish on a superb game for the Eagles' ace. Blake Rogers would come in for the top of the seventh and throw smoke. Rogers made quick work of Johnson in the inning by not allowing a hit or run.
The offense backed up the good pitching in the final game scoring runs in bunches third, fourth, and sixth innings. Nash Crowell came up big getting 3 RBIs and a home run in the game. He also was 2 for 4 hitting, which was matched by Zach Rabe and Tucker Zdunich. Rabe had 2 runs scored and Zdunich scored one.
Dylan Lewis and Rabe both had doubles in the game. Jacob Profit and Alex Coulter went 2 for 3 for the Eagles. Profit added another stolen base to his Reinhardt Career record count.
Despite the cold March weather, it was a good weekend of baseball for the Eagles as they picked up the AAC series win. The Eagles will have a couple of non-conference games on Tuesday and Wednesday this before hitting the road for a weekend series at Bluefield.
