Eagles Suffer First Loss of the AAC Tournament, but They Still Control the Outcome
Kingsport, TN - The Eagles were in a pitching dual battle this afternoon as they faced the number one pitcher from Bryan. The Eagles countered with Parker Miller, who had a great day pitching, but the Eagles came up one run short to automatically moving on to the AAC Championship. The final score was 2-1 in favor of the Lions and the two will face off Saturday morning at 11 am to decide who moves on. It is pretty simple now - the winner stays, loser packs it up.
Parker Miller had one of his best pitching performances of the season and probably one of the best of his career as an Eagle. He was able to pitch the complete nine innings while still keeping his pitch count relatively low. He struck out four Lions in the game and spread out nine hits in the nine innings. He only gave up two runs, which was one in the third and one in the seventh. It was an outstanding job by the senior right-hander and it gave Coach Burton and his staff a chance to rest the relievers.
Reinhardt Pitching vs Bryan (Game Three of AAC Tournament)
| PITCHERS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | SO | HR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PARKER MILLER (L, 6-5) | 9.0 | 9 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 0 |
| Totals | 9.0 | 9 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 0 |
There was not a lot of offense in the game for the Eagles as the Lions Ace had another good game against the Eagles. He threw a three-hit shutout against the Eagles just two weeks ago, and he had his stuff going today - however - the Eagles were starting to get to him. Will Underwood had a double and eventually scored to bring the Eagles back to within one run. Underwood also reached in the ninth on a throwing error by Bryan's third baseman. This gave some hope to the Eagles possibly tieing or taking the lead in the game.
Jarrett Burney had the best game at the plate going 3 for 4, however, the Eagles could not advance him to score any runs.
The best news is this was the first loss for the Eagles in the tournament, which means they are not finished. It is a double-elimination tournament so Bryan and Reinhardt will get to play each other again. If this works out like the series did at Ken White Field, the Eagles will be smiling at the end of tomorrow's 11 am game.
The game can be seen on the AAC Network - which will be all games tomorrow. If the Eagles win the 11 am game, they will get to play the eventual winner of the Tennessee Wesleyan vs Union game taking place on Friday evening and possibly a second game on Saturday depending on Friday's outcome. https://portal.stretchinternet.com/aac/
