WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – (Live Video | Live Stats) The NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) Quarterfinals is about to begin as four contests nationwide kick off on Saturday with a spot in the semifinals up for grabs.
The hometown team is ready to go as it sits in the Sunshine State one sleep away from taking on No. 4 Keiser (Fla.) at 12:30 p.m. at Keiser Football Field.
It will be the second time in history these two programs will meet on the gridiron – both in Florida – as the Seahawks escaped the Eagles, 14-12, following a 13-play, 98-yard drive in 1:49 was capped off by a 4-yard touchdown pass with 21 seconds remaining back on Sept. 21, 2019.
Reinhardt (9-0) is making just its fourth appearance in Florida as a football team, and will look to move to .500 tomorrow (1-2).
Most recently, the Eagles went on a 20-0 run in the second and third quarters to take down the Knights of Marian (Ind.), 40-29, last Saturday at home in the FCS First Round.
The game seemed to be getting out of hand for the visitors from Indianapolis, Ind., but a quarterback change late in the contest sparked some momentum for the Knights en route to winning the fourth period in wild fashion, 27-20, to get the postseason battle within two scores.
The 20-2 cushion for the Eagles was enough to advance to the next round after Marian started to find a rhythm towards the end of the afternoon.
After waiting to play for 161 days, Keiser started fast and never looked back, cruising past No. 12 Arizona Christian, 63-21, last Saturday afternoon. The victory marked the Seahawks' first-ever postseason win in school history as they are making their second appearance.
Tomorrow's contest is the first time since 2017 that the hometown squad will be lining up in the second round of the FCS – which they won against Georgetown (Ky.) at home, 17-10, back on Nov. 25, 2017.
A spot in the national semifinals is on the line tomorrow.
