Prior to coaching at Ottawa, Hennes had a three-year stint at NCAA Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he was the Offensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator with the Bulldog football program. In his three seasons with SWOSU, the Bulldogs finished in the top five in the GAC in passing yards per game. In 2021, SWOSU averaged 249.5 yards through the air, good for fourth in the GAC.
Over his career, Hennes coached four All-GAC selections at receiver and had a player invited to a free agent minicamp with the Kansas City Chiefs following the 2018 season. Before coaching at SWOSU, Hennes spent the 2017 season coaching wide receivers at Dodge City Community College (DCCC). Two of his receivers earned All-KJCCC honors.
Before his time with Dodge City, Hennes was on the staff for the 2014 and 2015 seasons at Southeastern Louisiana University where e coached the running backs in 2013 before moving to tight ends in 2014 and he served as Southeastern's pro liaison. He also had time at Emporia State University (ESU), Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO), and Delta State University where he coached on the offensive side of the ball.
His playing career in college would take him to Independence Community Collete in 2003-2004 where he played quarterback. He finished out his playing career at Emporia State University to play during the 2005-2006 seasons. Hennes graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in social studies. He earned his masters in higher education administration from Southeast Missouri State University in 2011.
Coach James Miller is pleased to have Hennes as the new offensive coordinator for his program and had this to say, "Excited to add a Coach like Tyler to our staff. He has experience at every level from FCS to NAIA. He worked with and learned directly from Chet Pobolish, our former OC, for 10 years at multiple stops, which allows our offense an easier transition than normal come fall camp. He also coached with Ron Roberts at multiple stops who I have a ton of respect for as a head coach. Tyler is a go-getter & hard worker that continues to improve in all aspects as a coach. Excited to have him and his wife Hunter joining our Reinhardt Football Family. They will be a great representation in the Cherokee County community."
Hennes has not had a chance to work with his offense yet, but he has worked under former offensive coordinator, Chet Pobolish, in the past and they run very similar offenses. He will get his first chance to work with his new players this summer when the players come in for training. The Eagles will be preparing for their first game on Thursday, August 31st at 6 pm versus Faulkner University at Ken White Field.
