Reinhardt Women's Flag Football Rallies Past LaGrange 13-6 at Home
Waleska, Ga. - Reinhardt University used a third-quarter touchdown pass from Addy Anderson to pull in front and the defense made it stand in a 13-6 win over LaGrange College in women's flag football Thursday afternoon in Waleska, Ga.
Trailing 6-0 late in the first half, the Eagles answered with a precise two-minute drive capped by a 2-yard touchdown pass from Anderson to Destiny Smith with 43 seconds left in the second quarter. Reinhardt converted the point-after attempt to take a 7-6 lead into halftime, a momentum swing that shifted control after LaGrange had struck first.
The decisive sequence came midway through the third quarter. Anderson again directed the offense into the red zone and finished the drive with another 2-yard scoring throw at the 4:53 mark to push the Eagles' advantage to 13-6. The PAT failed, but the seven-point cushion proved enough as the Reinhardt defense turned back every LaGrange threat the rest of the way.
Anderson led a balanced passing attack, finishing 30 of 43 for 220 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Reinhardt totaled 279 yards of offense on 55 plays, leaning heavily on the passing game with 32 completions on 45 attempts overall. Blye Townsell was a key downfield target with seven receptions for 100 yards, including a long gain of 36 yards, while Nicole Arauz added seven catches for 51 yards and chipped in 19 rushing yards on two attempts.
LaGrange opened the scoring with 19 seconds left in the first quarter, when quarterback Jada Starr kept the ball for a 4-yard rushing touchdown to make it 6-0. Starr finished 27 of 42 passing for 225 yards but was intercepted twice as the Eagles' secondary tightened after the early score. One of LaGrange's biggest plays came in the third quarter on a 47-yard completion from Hannah Edwards to Jillian Coney, but the drive ultimately stalled without points.
Reinhardt's defense was pivotal in preserving the lead. The Eagles recorded five sacks for 24 yards and forced three turnovers, including two late interceptions that closed the door. In the fourth quarter, Carmani Hampton jumped a route for an interception and returned it to the LaGrange 5-yard line, though the ensuing Reinhardt drive ended in a turnover. With 45 seconds remaining, Goddess Hancock came up with another interception at the LaGrange 30, effectively ending any comeback hopes.
LaGrange finished with 212 total yards on 47 plays, managing just 10 first downs against a consistent Reinhardt rush. Despite net negative rushing yardage, the Eagles' efficient passing game and timely defensive stands proved to be the difference as Reinhardt secured the home victory in clear, cold conditions in Waleska.
