Reinhardt falls to Thomas after second-quarter answer fades in road loss
THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Reinhardt dropped a 46-6 decision to Thomas on Saturday afternoon at TU Soccer Complex, as Thomas used an early turnover, a 26-6 halftime lead and a four-touchdown passing day from Destiny Lockett to take control. The decisive stretch came before and after halftime, when Thomas built separation and then added 20 fourth-quarter points, including a 35-yard touchdown pass from Kam King to Azariah Greer as time expired.
Thomas struck first in the opening quarter after Dyva Jones intercepted Alexus Wilson and returned the ball to the Reinhardt 37-yard line, helping set up Jones' touchdown reception from Lockett with 7:30 left in the first quarter. Lockett added a rushing touchdown with 1:48 remaining in the quarter, and Thomas carried a 13-0 lead into the second. Another Lockett scoring pass, this one to Greer at the 10:09 mark of the second quarter, pushed the margin to 19-0.
Reinhardt answered with its best sequence of the day late in the first half. Alexus Wilson capped a drive with a 6-yard rushing touchdown with 5:08 left in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 20-6 and accounting for the Eagles' lone score. Wilson was responsible for nearly all of Reinhardt's offense, completing 24 of 32 passes for 124 yards while adding 37 rushing yards and the touchdown on 14 carries. But Thomas responded again before the break, with Lockett finding the end zone with 31 seconds left in the half to send the Eagles into halftime trailing 26-6.
The Eagles were unable to generate another breakthrough in the second half. Reinhardt finished with 161 total yards, five first downs and conversions on 3 of 11 third-down tries and 1 of 4 fourth-down attempts. Thomas' defense added four sacks and limited Reinhardt to 3.5 yards per play, repeatedly ending drives before they could build momentum.
Thomas finished with 373 total yards on just 40 plays, averaging 9.3 yards per snap. Lockett led that effort by going 13 of 19 for 214 yards and four passing touchdowns while rushing seven times for 75 yards and two more scores. Greer caught six passes for 97 yards, and Ameari Logan added five receptions for 61 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas broke the game open in the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass from Lockett to Logan at 4:29, another Lockett-to-Jones scoring connection at 1:55, and the late strike from King to Greer that closed the scoring at 46-6.
Reinhardt's highlight remained Wilson's second-quarter touchdown run, which briefly cut the deficit to two scores and gave the Eagles a response after Thomas' fast start. Instead, Thomas answered before halftime, controlled the second half and finished the afternoon with its final touchdown as the clock hit 0:00.
