Reinhardt Bounces Back With Win In Conference Opener
By Angel Cornista
WALESKA, GA. - Reinhardt hope their search for momentum can end with an exciting matchup against the Knights of Kentucky Christian (KY.) resulting in their AAC Home Opener win of the season 94-90.
The Eagles had a slow start at the beginning of the first period as the Knights had a 7-0 lead. With the constant flow of substitutions, the Eagles found their ground, taking their first lead of the game 19-18 with 12:50 remaining in the first half. However, this effort was not enough to keep the Knights at bay as they did not shy away from the battle. With seconds left in the first half, Kristian Collins made an offensive rebound that resulted in a putback to tie the game 49-49 leading into half time.
After the half, both squads knew they were in for a tight battle, staying within points of each other. However, the energy from Tyler Smith's dunks created noise and carried the team into a 6 point lead. Kentucky Christian fought for a six point lead of their own, making the score 88-82 with less then 5 minutes left in game.
The Eagles defense stayed strong and created more offensive opportunities to execute on. Reinhardt closed out the game on a 12 point run to end this AAC match up with a final score of 94-90.
