Barbourville, KY - The Reinhardt Men's Basketball Team headed out on the road to face conference opponent, Union College. After coming off Wednesday night's win, the Eagles would be facing this road game with a few key players missing which meant others had to step up. Coach Justin Newton and the Eagles were ready to put their four game win streak on the line against Union, who went into the game undefeated in conference play.
The first half started with both teams shooting cold. They traded baskets for the first ten minutes of the first half. Each team would seem to be heating up and then both teams would go back on cold streaks. A three pointer by Jalin Wimberly tied the game at 17 a piece and shortly after hit the second of a two shot shooting foul giving the Eagles a one point lead. Junior guard Jamison Syphore helped start the mini-run to halftime making two free throws and a jumper while freshman Tucker Lowe backed it up with a three pointer extending the Eagles' lead to 25 to 20 with around four minutes left in the half. Then Keyshaun Street would get fouled while making a layup and making his free throw. In all, the Eagles would make a ten point unanswered run giving them the 31 to 24 halftime lead.
In the second half, things would start to heat up as senior Josh Press would hit two consecutive three pointers and a lay up giving the Eagles a ten point spread. Wimberly and Street would help in this effort as the second half floodgates were opened. Reinhardt would score an incredible fifty points in the second half led by Press who scored a game high 20 points. The Eagles had three other players in double figures with Wimberly scoring 16, Street had 14, and Marcus Kirkland added 15.
Reinhardt would extend the lead as high as sixteen points on their scoring barrage. Union was able to chip away at this lead bringing the game within six points around the three minute mark. Wimberly and Kirkland proved to shoot well from the free throw line to finish out the game giving Reinhardt the conference road victory against a tough Union Bulldog team. The final score was 81 to 70 for the Eagles!
The team should be back to full strength as they bring their five game win streak for a home game versus Tennessee Wesleyan this Wednesday evening at The Brown Athletic Center.
