Eagles Hit the Century Mark Against Johnson!
Knoxville, TN - For the second game in a row, the Eagles have put up big numbers. Prior to this, they were having issues getting their offense rolling, but they seemed to have found what they need to do and they can score in bunches. Johnson was on the receiving end of getting 104 points put on them at their place with the final score being 103 to 87. The Eagles had six players in double figures, which is an amazing stat.
The first big run of the game happened with about twelve minutes left in the first half when the Eagles had just a two-point lead, 20-18. In less than a minute, the Eagles jumped to an eleven-point lead from three-pointers by Jamison Syphore and Mekhi Mawdesley. Mawdesley had two in the stretch and Syphore had one.
The Eagles extended this lead to seventeen points with just over five minutes left in the first half on a three-pointer by Nate Louis and a layup by Tafari Thomas. The Eagles would take a commanding 56-38 into the half after Javin Wimberly threw down a dunk to cap off the first half.
In the second half, the Royals of Johnson were able to get the lead down to just 9 points after having the big lead and eventually got the lead to just six before a pair of Greg Hobbs' free throws put a stop to Johnson's run. The Eagles were able to get the lead back to twelve on another Syphore three-pointer with just four minutes remaining in the game. The lead would extend to sixteen points to end the game with the Eagles getting over the century mark.
Nate Louis had the honors of hitting points 100 and 101 on two free throws in the final minute and Fred Adams put in the final two on another set of free throws to end the game. Louis would lead all scores with 22 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Antonio Spencer added 16 points, Mawdesley had 14 points, Greg Hobbs had 13 (which was his high of the season), and Jalin Wimberly and Syphore both added 12 each.
Hopefully, the Eagles can continue their offensive output that has been going on for the past two games. The next test will be Tuesday evening when the team faces Point University in West Point, GA. It will be another great chance for the Eagles to get another AAC victory and get their record closer to being even.
