Spencer and Smith Lead Eagles to Strong Win Against Kentucky Christian
Grayson, KY - Antonio Spencer and Tyler Smith have very strong games to lead the Eagles past the Knights of Kentucky Christian, 88-74. The Eagles pick up their third win in a row extending their AAC record to 9-6 with nine remaining games in the regular season.
Antonio Spencer scored 21 points in the game but also had 15 rebounds for the Eagles. Tyler Smith was just one point behind Spencer with 20 points with 15 of those points coming in the second half when the Eagles needed it. The Eagles were down by three at the half 41-38 and had a strong second half to take the convincing win against the Knights.
The Eagles had five players in double-digit scoring. After Spencer and Smith, Tafari Thomas had another strong game for the Eagles scoring 12 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Jalin Wimberly and Brandon Barron both had 10 points each. Jamison Syphore was knocking on the door with 9 points and was 3 for 4 behind the three-point line.
Greg Hobbs led the team at point guard dishing out 6 assists to only one turnover. He also had 3 rebounds and one steal in the game.
The Eagles would not take the lead back from the Knights until seventeen minutes left in the second half on a layup by Spencer. Although close most of the second half, the Eagles would extend their lead around nine minutes left on two three-pointers by Smith and Thomas. This gave the Eagles a ten-point margin which they never would relinquish. Smith and Spencer would take the team on their backs for the remainder of the game to close out with a win.
It is a very good sign to see these two big men start to come around as the season moves into the final third. Smith has spent much of the early season trying to get healthy. When he is 100%, he is one of the top players in the conference. The Eagles will need Spencer and Smith to keep using the size and power to help them pick up wins the rest of the way. With a strong finish, the Eagles can move their way up the conference standings and make a run in the AAC Tournament. With this team healthy and playing well, it is a team that can strike fear in any opponent it faces in these remaining games.
The next game will be Tuesday evening back at home at the B.A.C. when the Lions of Bryan College visit Waleska. The game will be at 7:30 PM so pack the house and help the Eagles pick up #4 in a row!
