Eagles Win Looking for the #2 Spot in the Conference Seeding
Athens, TN - The Eagles Men's Basketball Team put themselves in a great position by getting the important win against Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The final was 59 to 48 in this last regular season game of the 2022-23 season. The win puts them in a scenario for possibly second place in the AAC.
The tournament, which will be held this week in Kingsport, TN, will start later this week with both the Men's and Women's teams having a good shot to get a title. One of the goals for the Eagles this season was to compete in the conference in order to give them the best shot at making it to the NAIA Nationals.
The tournament schedule should be released on Sunday for both the Men and Women so it will be exciting to see where both teams land and who the competition will be.
In the game with Tennessee Wesleyan, the Eagles were able to lead in both halves. Tyler Smith would lead all Eagles in scoring with 18 points. He was joined by Jalin Wimberly, Tafari Thomas, and Greg Hobbs as the four players in double figures. Wimberly added 15 points, Tafari Thomas had 11, and Greg Hobbs had 10 points. Hobbs' points came in the second half when the team was trying to nail down the victory.
The Eagles had a halftime lead of 31-27 and in the second half, they were able to extend the lead slightly to 59-48. Tyler Smith's game against the Bulldogs came at the right time because the Eagles are going to need his size and power to make some noise at the AAC Tournament.
