RU Men's Basketball Players Receive AAC Honors
AAC Men's Basketball Awards Announced
WALESKA, Ga. - The Appalachian Athletic Conference announced the 2022-23 Men's Basketball All-AAC Team and Awards on Tuesday. Reinhardt Men's Basketball was honored with five players on the All-Conference Teams.
Jalin Wimberly, who was the team leader for the entire season for the Eagles, made 1st Team All-ACC. Wimberly made the team last year and is one of the best players in the conference who has been entertaining the Eagles fan base for years.
Joining Wimberly for All-Conference is Tafari Thomas and Antonio Spencer who both made 2nd Team All-ACC. Thomas is a rebounding machine and a high-flyer that can throw down the best dunks in the conference, but he was also a vital part of the Eagles scoring this season.
Antonio Spender also made the AAC All-Defensive Team for his dominating presence in the lane for the Eagles. Joining Spencer on the All-Defensive team is Greg Hobbs who is a nightmare for opponents trying to bring the ball up the court. Hobbs is constantly hustling while he is on the court creating havoc for the opposing team. He is a leader in steals for the Eagles, but he is also a floor leader and has stepped up his scoring this year.
The outstanding freshman, Mekhi Mawdesley, made his impact for the Eagles this season helping them with long-range shooting and size at the guard position. As time goes on, he will be a vital part of the Eagles lineup and a leader on those future teams.
In addition to the AAC All-Conference Teams, the conference announced its NAIA Champions of Character and All-Academic Teams.
Jawdat Razeq was named Reinhardt Men's Basketball NAIA Champions of Character. Razeq is a senior guard for the Eagles who will be graduating this May. He has future plans of getting into the educational system in hopes of one day becoming a high school administrator.
AAC All-Acadmic Team members for Reinhardt Men's Basketball are Brandon Barron, Mitchell Kennedy, Tucker Lowe, Jawdat Razeq, and Jalin Wimberly.
The team will be playing its first AAC Tournament game on Thursday with the opponent being named later. The Eagles secured the second spot in the AAC regular season and Eagles Fans hope that we see our team competing in the NAIA National Tournament in the next few weeks!
