Fourth Quarter Goal Explosion Propels Eagles Past Madonna
David Finney
Louisville, Ky. - Eagles Lacrosse road schedule continued over the weekend with a match-up with Madonna University from Michigan, however, the game would be played at a neutral site. The Eagles are still ranked #1 in the NAIA and they were looking to keep their spot intact.
The Eagles started off strong scoring three goals in the first quarter. Tyler Wilkinson, Dillan Bousquet, and Cameron Cochran would all score in the first period. Reinhardt would hold the Crusaders scoreless in the first quarter, however, they would make a strong comeback in the second quarter scoring four goals on the Eagles. Wilkinson would get the only goal in the second quarter when he was assisted by Brady Hanak. The score would be tied at the halftime break with four goals each. It is not often that the Eagles go into the half behind or tied, but this would be something that would get them going in the second half.
It would take some time for the Eagles to actually get going in the second half as they would be outscored in the third quarter. Bousquet would score twice in the third quarter and Carter Maurice would put away another goal, but Madonna would score four goals to Reinhardt's three. At the end of the third, the Eagles would be trailing 7-8 so it would take a good fourth quarter to pull ahead of the Crusaders and win the game.
Madonna would score the first goal of the fourth quarter putting them up 9-7 over Reinhardt. This is when the Eagles' offense would come alive and they would rattle off seven goals in the final quarter. Titus Thind and Brady Hanak would score 2 goals each to lead the Eagles in the fourth quarter scoring barrage. Wilkinson, Stefan Duckett, Carter Maurice would add one goal each to put the Eagles up 14 - 9 to end the game.
It was a great comeback by the Eagles after being down a goal or two in the third quarter. Reinhardt will be off for several days before they play again. They will finally have a home game on March 25th when they play Point University in a conference match-up. The two games following the home game with Point will also be home games as the regular season starts to wind down.
