Shackelford, Amatulli, and Greer Push Eagles Past Point University
Waleska, GA - Reinhardt Men's Lacrosse used a decisive second-quarter surge and dominant faceoff play to defeat Point 12-7 on Thursday afternoon in Waleska, Ga. The Eagles broke open a one-goal game by scoring six times in the second quarter, turning a 3-2 edge after the first into a 9-4 halftime lead that Point never erased.
The turning point came in the closing seconds of the first quarter and carried into the opening minutes of the second. Bennett Morrison scored with two seconds left in the first to put Reinhardt ahead 3-2, then Luke Greer and Benjamin Shackelford added goals in the first 90 seconds of the second quarter for a 5-2 advantage. Point briefly answered through Shaun McLaughlin, but Reinhardt kept control as Marshall Cisco scored off a Joey Amatulli assist, and Amatulli later found the net before Cisco added another goal with 18 seconds left in the half.
Amatulli, Shackelford and Greer led a balanced Reinhardt attack with three goals apiece. Amatulli also added two assists for a team-high five points, while Shackelford finished with three goals and one assist. Reinhardt recorded 12 goals on 48 shots and put 27 on frame. The Eagles also received assists from Bennett Morrison, Holden Whitecliffe, and Cisco as they consistently created pressure in the offensive end.
Reinhardt's control started at the faceoff stripe and extended to possession throughout the day. The Eagles won 20 of 23 faceoffs, held a 33-11 advantage in ground balls and committed only eight turnovers. That edge in possession helped Reinhardt limit Point's chances and sustain repeated attacking sequences, even as Point goalie Whitman Prewitt kept the visitors within range with 15 saves.
Michael Scoleri made nine saves for Reinhardt and helped the Eagles manage Point's pushes in each quarter. Point got two goals from Jamison Cross, two from Zachary Covey and a goal with two assists from McLaughlin, but Reinhardt answered key moments throughout the game. Shackelford scored 20 seconds into the third-quarter run for a 10-4 lead, and after Rodney Oakley cut the deficit to five, Shackelford struck again at 6:33 of the third to restore a six-goal cushion.
Amatulli's goal at 11:02 of the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 12-5 and effectively closed the door. Point added late goals from Cross and Covey, but the outcome had already been decided after Reinhardt's second-quarter burst and steady control of possession.
The win moves the Eagles temporarily into second place in the AAC standings with just one game left to play in the 2026 spring season. Reinhardt will play Life University on Saturday evening at Ken White Field at 7:30 and with a win, the Eagles will finish no lower than second place in the standings. However, SCAD is one game back of the Eagles with a couple of games left. If SCAD wins out, they would be in a tie with Reinhart in second place, but they own the tiebreaker against the Eagles (head-to-head match). The Bees are playing Cumberlands on Thursday evening with heavy implications on the final AAC standings. Please follow AACsports.com for more up-to-date information.
