Reinhardt Soccer Making Waves in Summer Play

WALESKA, Ga. – Each year, many of the Reinhardt players are selected to top USL USL2/NPSL teams as their dreams of playing at the professional level after graduation from the Eagles.
With the 2019 season well underway, the student-athletes from Reinhardt have represented their clubs well as the push for the playoffs is in its final stages.
"Many of our student-athletes are highly-motivated to pursue their full potential within this game of soccer they are so passionate about," head coach Joey Johnson said. 'The opportunities for our players to compete at the highest amateur level in the USA within the USL2/NPSL in the summer months is beneficial to their development. The USL2/NPSL programs have affiliations with USL PRO and MLS, which are important in players having the opportunity to showcase their talent in a broader way as they compete alongside and against the best collegiate talent in the country."

The NPSL is an additional amateur option which competes with the USL USL2 for this distinction of top amateur league in the USA and have top flight clubs available to developing players. For information on the NPSL go to http://www.npsl.com/.
Junior midfielder Taylor Gray has had a standout season with the Tri-City Otters who currently sit in first-place with two games in hand in the South Atlantic Division. Gray has earned national recognition within the USL2 league as he has a league best five match scoring streak and is quickly emerging as one of the league's most dynamic attacking players. Gray earned Appalachian Athletic Conference All-Conference honors this past season at Reinhardt. He was joined at Tri-City this season by defender Nathan Ashburn, who has been a starter the past two seasons at Reinhardt. The two Eagle additions have helped the Tri City Otters to their best season in franchise history to this point.

Reinhardt's Todd Fidler, a 2018 USC All-Region performer with the Eagles, was selected by the Dalton Red Wolves organization this season. The Red Wolves are a strong local club and affiliated directly with the USL Pro Chattanooga Red Wolves. His standout play earned an opportunity to showcase his talent as he was called up to the USL Pro Red Wolves in the first week of training for an extended trial. The USL2 Red Wolves are currently in third-place in the Southern Division.

Standout All-American goalkeeper Torge Wiedenroth has signed professionally with NPSL Pro club Chattanooga FC, who will transition in August to the professional league. CFC is currently in first-place by a wide margin in the highly-competitive Southeast Conference in the NPSL. Recently, CFC hosted Real Betis from Spain's La Liga in a friendly in Chattanooga's Finley Stadium – losing by a slim 4-3 margin.

Forward Aaron Whitten is currently with the Georgia Revolution of the NPSL for his second season after emerging as a fan favorite in 2018. He joins former Reinhardt goalkeeper Cameron Verona, who is in his first year with the club. Reinhardt's Edgardo Obregon is competing as an attacking midfielder in the USL2 with Weston FC in South Florida. Obregon has been named team captain in 2019, which is a rare honor for a player at his young age. Obregon is a product of Weston FC USSF Developmental Academy as a youth player.
Midfielder Roy King signed at Inter Nashville in the NPSL for the 2019 season. Inter Nashville is currently mid-table in the Southeast Conference and can be followed at https://twitter.com/DaltonRedWolves?lang=en.
Also of interest, former Reinhardt assistant coach Jorge Gonzalez has helped his new club to a first-place position in the current standings for the 2019 season as it approaches the playoffs.
