WEST POINT, Ga. – Arthur Hugon hit the back of the net at 87:09 off an indirect kick from Rafael Pais to break the hearts of the upset-minded Skyhawks of Point (Ga.) on their home field Wednesday night in 2-1 victory for the Eagles.
Reinhardt improved its record to 6-0 (6-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC)) after responding to the Skyhawks in a big way after they were able to tie the contest at 1-1 with an 83rd-minute goal.
The opening tally of the night came courtesy of Trevor Robinson – from Pais – as he gave his club the early lead in the first half at 12:14. Both defenses would hold the other offense scoreless for nearly 70 minutes until Point was able to tie things up.
The hometown team outshot its host, 19-15, in the hard-fought battle; one that saw five yellow cards and 24 total fouls called.
Despite the adversity, Hugon helped the Eagles escape unscathed.
Pais (6) and Aaron Whitten (5) held the majority of the shot attempts, and Niko Tzevelekos made five saves at goalkeeper.
Reinhardt is back to Ken White Field at University Stadium for a Saturday afternoon matchup against St. Andrews (N.C.).
Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
