LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Knights of St. Andrews (N.C.) stood toe-to-toe with Reinhardt on the soccer field on Saturday afternoon, but Badr Laklech netted an 86th-minute goal to put away the contest in a 2-0 win.
The teams were nearly equal on the pitch in another hard-fought Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) outing, but Blake White – from Pavel Dashin – found the back of the net at 19:43 for the lone score in the first half and the only offense on either side in 85 minutes of play.
The Eagles are leaving North Carolina still undefeated at 8-0 and 5-0 inside the AAC.
"It's always a difficult task to secure a positive result on the road in Laurinburg, N.C., and today proved no different," head coach Joey Johnson said. "I appreciate the work the players put in and look forward to learning from this experience to improve as a team as we continue AAC play."
Nearly every stat category was equal between these two groups, as Reinhardt and St. Andrews were tied in shots at 15-15, the Eagles made one more save in-goal (6-5) and the Knights had more corner kicks at 6-3.
Individually, White had five attempts on offense, while Niko Tzevelekos made six stops protecting the net in the shutout.
The Lions of Bryan (Tenn.) welcome Reinhardt to town on Oct. 6.
Match time is set for 7:30 p.m.
