DAYTON, Tenn. – Men's soccer scored three times in the second half to fly away from Bryan (Tenn.) Wednesday evening after the two schools were tied at halftime, 1-1.
The Eagles ultimately took the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory by the count of 4-1 over the Lions to improve to 9-0 (6-0 AAC).
"I thought the players from both programs coped well with the adversity of the match day with weather delays and site changes and competed hard tonight,'" head coach Joey Johnson said. "I appreciate the shift in energy and work ethic in the second half from our players as it was required against a quality opponent."
Gus Fidler (from Rafael Pais) got the scoring started in the eighth minute for a brief lead for the visitors, but much like the women's contest before it, Bryan came right back and tied the matchup at 1-1 with a goal of its own at 13:08.
No. 24 Reinhardt would outshoot its opposition, 20-6, but went into the opening minutes of the second half without another tally on the scoreboard. That all changed in a hurry – and twice in seven seconds – as Min Lee nailed back-to-back attempts in the back of the net off feeds from Pavel Dashin and Pais, respectively.
With the stadium in shock over what just happened on the offensive end for the Eagles, the two teams once again settled into the conference battle and didn't allow another score for a large portion of the half.
That next goal, and final score, came from Reinhardt's Andres Jorquera in the 89th minute as he cemented the victory after taking the ball from Callum Lees.
The hometown team kept constant pressure on the Lion defense and collected a 6-1 cushion in corner kicks.
Individually, Lee led the way with five shots, while two other teammates posted three attempts.
Reinhardt now welcomes a new men's soccer squad – Columbia (S.C.) – to Waleska on Saturday evening in the first matchup in history between the two programs at 6:15 p.m.
