Three FIrst Half Goals Make it Difficult for Eagles Soccer
Dalton, GA - Reinhardt Eagles Soccer has faced very tough competition to start off the 2022-23 season. Three of the first seven games for the Eagles have been against NAIA Top 25 teams. Week one opponent, Georgia Gwinnett, is ranked #10 in the country, Life University is sitting at #20, and tonight's opponent, Dalton State, is the highest ranked at #9. These tough games have had the Eagles' offense wondering where is the offense going to come from when playing NAIA Top Ranked teams.
In all three games, the Eagles have been competitive - but they have only been able to score one goal in each of these games. Only scoring once against the top-ranked teams makes it very hard for the team to pull out a much-needed victory and place themselves as one of the top-ranked teams.
The Eagles would not see a goal until the second half when Blake White found the back of the net in the fifty-first minute. The Eagles were playing catch-up from the start because the Roadrunners of Dalton State had scored two quick goals in the first six minutes of the first half. Play leveled off after this hot start by Dalton State, but they were able to get one before the halftime break to take the score to 3-0.
Although he did have four goals against him in this game, Elijah Clark, was able to get four saves from eight total shots on goal. The Eagles would have three yellow cards total in the game, however, it was the Roadrunners that would have the most fouls at 14 total yet only one yellow card. The teams were tied with two corner kicks each and Dalton State outshot the Eagles 17 to 10. A majority of the shots came in the first half when the heavy attack by Dalton State was on.
Blake White's goal against the Roadrunners was his second on the season and gives him four points total.
The Eagles will need to rebound quickly from this loss as they will be back in AAC action this Saturday at Johnson University in Knoxville, TN. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24th at 4:30 pm right after the women's game, which starts at 2 pm. All coverage of the game can be found on www.reinahrdteagles.com
