Andres Jorquera's Second Have Goal Gives Edge to the Eagles
Waleska, GA - It was a good night for Reinhardt Soccer with two action-packed and exciting games, which both ended in shutouts of AAC opponent Bryan College. The Men's Team battled for a 1-0 win and that is all it takes to get the points in the standings. The win puts the Eagles in the fourth spot of the conference standings which positions two - five all having a record of 4-1-2. Reinhardt has six remaining games which are all in conference play (four away and two at home). All of these are winnable games for the Eagles and they will have a chance to play CIU who sits at the top currently.
In tonight's game with visiting Bryan College, it would not be until the second half when the fans at Ken White Field would see a goal. The two teams were battling hard and the play did get physical at times. Both teams were grinding for a win in this game and it would be Andres Jorquera who found the back of the net in the 69th minute of the game. Jorquera was assisted from the left flank of the field by Maxime Correia. Correia was able to receive a pass and quickly feed the ball to the springing Jorquera who made a few moves and sprinted around the Lyons defender and dropped it to the far side of the goal just past the reach of the keeper. It was a moment of relief and triumph because the game had a feel of ending with a zero-zero tie up until that point.
Both teams had many shots on goal the time of possession seemed about equal. At times, both teams had their periods of dominating the ball but that would quickly equal back out with strong defense and counterattacks. The Eagles led the game with 19 total shots and 11 on frame. Bryan was much less with 6 total shots with only 2 of those being on frame. Blake White led the way with 5 total shots and 3 on target. Several of White's shots were just barely off or was saved by Bryan's keeper who had a good night at keeping the Eagles' shots out of the goal.
For the Eagles, Niko Tzevelekos would have a tremendous night leading the defense and keeping the Lyons from getting a good shot. A few of Bryan's shots were on target which required Tzevelos to make a few diving saves. This was his second shutout in a row and his fourth total this season.
The Eagles' next game will be on the road this Saturday with the Koalas of Columbia (SC) and next Wednesday will be a barn-burner as Reinhardt travels to CIU for a chance to knock off the current #1 team in the conference.
