Eagles Earn Shutout Win in Final Regular Season Home Game!
Waleska, GA - Reinhardt Eagles Soccer had their final regular season home game Wednesday evening at Ken White Field. The Eagles faced a tough Montreat team that played tough defense the entire game, however, the Eagles were able to overcome and find the back of the net twice to win 2-0. The win moves them into a tie with Union for second place in the AAC standings.
The first goal would come in the fourth minute of the first half when Blake White would get tripped in the far righthand side of the Cavaliers' penalty box. White would take the penalty shot and nail it into the right corner of the goal giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
The narrow 1-0 lead would last the majority of the game even though the Eagles had several chances on goal. Reinhardt would put up 15 total shots with 9 of those being on target.
The next goal would come in the second half in the sixty-ninth minute when Blake White would make a run up the middle just past midfield. White placed a great through ball on the back heals of the Montreat defender which would hit the sprinting Aaron Whitten in stride. Once in the box, Whitten did a cutback on the left side of the box to get past the defender and put a perfect shot to the far side of the goal. This would give the Eagles a little breathing room to finish out the game with a 2-0 victory.
Elijah Clark had a really good night in the goal stopping 6 shots by the visiting Cavaliers. Clark has a .720 save percentage this season with 15 total saves so far. The Eagles have a solid combination of goalkeepers with Clark and Niko Tzevelekos.
The Eagles are playing really good soccer right now even though they have a few injuries keeping them on the thin side. They have one more regular season game on Saturday afternoon with Kentucky Christian and then it will be onto the AAC Tournament the following week. The Eagles should find out their tournament schedule early next week once all regular season games have finished. The Eagles should get at least one home game for the tournament since they are toward the top of the table. Stay tuned to www.ReinahrdtEagles.com for the most up-to-date sports updates.
