Men's Soccer Edged Out of AAC Tournament
Barbourville, KY - After a season of battling injuries and some tough setbacks, the Eagles were able to push through and compete for the conference title. Narrow points separated them from being in the top position and they had to finally settle for 5th place and a trip to Union College to face the Bulldogs.
The Eagles had the early lead in this game when Maxime Correia put one in the back of the net from an assist from Blake White. White had previously taken a shot that was saved by the Union goalkeeper.
Reinhardt would hold the lead until about the forty-minute mark in the first half when Union would answer and tie the game at 1-1. The game would go quiet from this point until the unfortunate own goal gave Union the lead with only eighteen minutes left in the game.
Down 2 goals to one, the Eagles would try a few shots to try to tie the game. Their efforts would come up a little short and time would expire with the 2-1 loss.
Elijah Clark would get the start in this first-round playoff game for the injured Niko Tzevelekos. Clark had a pretty good game saving 6 of the 8 shots on goal.
The Eagles would only get 4 total shots in the game where Union's keeper saved 3.
It was an unfortunate end to the season for the Eagles because all season long, their losses were by narrow margins. The injury bug got to this team early and it seemed to have an effect on them the entire season. Despite the team's injuries, the Eagles had a lot of successes, and just two weeks ago they were in a deadlock tie for first place in the conference. The Eagles will now need to regroup, rest, heal, and try to prepare for the upcoming season.
