WALESKA, Ga. – Conference-leading Reinhardt looked excellent again Thursday in its doubleheader versus Bryan (Tenn.) at Ken White Softball Field.
The Eagles took both games from the Lions, 8-0 (six innings) and 7-1.
This gave the 21st-ranked team in the nation another four-game winning streak – its third of the season – and a 14-4 overall record on the year (4-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play).
During that streak, the team has allowed just two runs while scoring 26 of its own. On the season, Reinhardt is averaging six runs a game and allowing only two.
"Everyone who got in today played well, and a conference sweep is always great," lead Eagle Jade Geuther said.
Game 1 (W, 8-0)
· Eagle ace Reagan Radke took the circle for game one, where she put on another phenomenal performance by allowing zero runs, striking out four batters and walking only one.
· Reinhardt got the ball rolling immediately when Jill Martinet reached first on a walk, Emma Adams doubled and then Kyrstyn Fisher brought them both home with a single to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead heading into the second inning.
· In the bottom of the third, Reinhardt was threatening again, but the inning ended with several Eagles stranded on base.
· The fourth frame is where the game got away from the Lions after Emily Loveless hit a 3-run home run, which was followed a short time later by a solo shot from Adams – giving the Eagles a 6-0 lead after four.
· Two innings later, two more runs were put up by way of a few wild pitches and two singles from Alise Hooks and Martinet as Reinhardt earned an 8-0 advantage effectively ending the first game of the day.
· Four Eagles registered multiple hits in the game – Adams (3), Martinet (2), Fisher (2) and Megan Huss (2).
Game 2 (W, 7-1)
· Three different Eagles took the ball in game two of the doubleheader – Whitney Shepherd (W) (4 hits, 0 earned runs), Ansley Byers (6 hits, 0 runs) and Lindsey Shepherd (0 hits, 0 runs).
· Bryan was able to get on the board in this game by scoring one run in the top of the first and taking its only lead on Reinhardt throughout the entire affair.
· The cushion did not last long as the Eagles then put up three runs of their own after several walks and three singles by Alise Hooks, Jill Martinet and Megan Huss.
· Reinhardt added three more hits and three more runs its next time up to bat, giving the club a 6-1 lead after two innings.
· One more run came in the sixth after the reigning AAC Softball Player of the Week, Emily Loveless, hit her second homer of the day and her fifth of the season to bring the final score to 7-1.
· Though the Eagles were outhit, 10-8, in game two, they came out on top in the hit category on the day, 20-13.
· Loveless (3), Hooks (2) and Huss (2) each had multiple hits in game two and finished 4-of-6, 3-of-7 and 4-of-6 on the day, respectively.
Reinhardt will look to get revenge on No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett in a doubleheader this Saturday after dropping the first two games of the year against the Grizzlies on Feb. 10.
First pitch of game one at home is set for 1 p.m.
