Waleska, Reinhardt closed Senior Day with a doubleheader sweep of Tennessee Wesleyan, riding two complete-game shutouts to 2-0 and 3-0 wins Friday at Ken White Field in Waleska. The decisive stretch came in the circle across both games, where Anslie Pettit and Macy Langley combined to allow four hits over 14 innings as the Eagles never trailed.
Game 1 turned in the second inning, when Emma Scott reached on an error that allowed Eryn Lee, one of Reinhardt's five seniors, to score the first run of the afternoon. The Eagles added insurance in the fifth on Molly Stevens' sacrifice fly, which brought home Emily Pettit for a 2-0 lead. That was enough for Anslie Pettit, who worked all seven innings, allowed three hits, struck out 10 and did not issue a walk in a 98-pitch shutout. Reinhardt finished with seven hits and played clean defense behind her, while Tennessee Wesleyan left only two runners on base.
Emily Pettit and Scott paced the Game 1 offense with two hits apiece. Emily Pettit also scored a run and doubled, helping the Eagles create chances even though they left 10 runners on base. Tennessee Wesleyan starter Allie Shaver kept the visitors close for much of the opener, allowing two runs over five innings, but Reinhardt's pitching and defense controlled the game from the start.
The second game followed a similar script, though Reinhardt scored earlier. Ansley Hight delivered an RBI single in the first to score senior Taylor Wade and make it 1-0. In the second, Shelbie Hutto doubled to right-center to plate senior Eryn Lee for a two-run cushion. Hight then supplied the biggest swing of the night in the fifth, leading off with a solo home run that pushed the margin to 3-0.
Langley took over from there. She threw a seven-inning one-hit shutout, struck out five and needed only 73 pitches to finish off the nightcap. Tennessee Wesleyan managed just one hit and one walk against her, while Reinhardt backed the effort with eight hits and another error-free defensive game. Hight finished 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Wade added two hits, including a double, and scored once.
The sweep gave Reinhardt two shutout wins on a day that also recognized seniors Eryn Lee, Molly Stevens, Shallyn Olszowy, Taylor Wade and Kylie Freije. Lee scored in both games, Stevens drove in a run in the opener and Wade crossed the plate in the nightcap, giving the Senior Day doubleheader a fitting finish as Langley recorded the final outs of the 3-0 win.
