Season Ends for Lady Eagles in NAIA Opening Round
Reinhardt University's season came to an end Saturday evening in Daytona Beach, Fla., as the Lady Eagles fell, 6-0, to No. 6 Embry-Riddle in the NAIA Women's Soccer Opening Round.
The Lady Eagles (15-4-2) saw Embry-Riddle score two goals in a span of five minutes of the first half to fall behind, 2-0, just over 23 minutes into the contest. RU was unable to get any offensive momentum going in the half as the Lady Eagles did not record a shot in the first half.
Embry-Riddle took advantage of a corner kick in the 49th minute to score its third goal of the game. In the 51st minute, a rebound off a save by Taylor Asher led to the fourth goal. A penalty kick in the 54th minute stretched the lead up to five, with a goal in the 61st minute finishing the scoring.
RU was without the services of Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year Krista Barikos, who was injured in the first half of the AAC Championship against Montreat last Saturday. Becca Barnett, who replaced Barikos in the starting lineup, would come up with one of RU's shots on goal, with Katie Hale adding the other.
Andrea Froshaug and Martine Olsen each had a pair of goals for Embry-Riddle.
