GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The first season sweep of an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) foe in 2018 was completed Friday night, as Reinhardt was able to make quick work of Brenau (Ga.) in three sets – 25-18, 25-6, 25-20 – to notch the team's 12th-straight win on the year.
The Eagles (16-4, 7-0 AAC) continue their stay at the top of the conference standings after keeping their true road game perfect record intact following the triumph.
"Team played well… 27 digs and four blocks," head coach Brian Goodhind said. "Freshman Allyson Mattson played in her first match and was a spark off the bench hitting .333 in her debut. On to Columbia."
Cheetara Bing led the way offensively with nine kills, but the visitors were the benefactors of 25 Golden Tiger errors – including 11 in the third-and-final set. Brenau put up a strong fight in the opening stanza by remaining all-square at 17-17 before Reinhardt ended the first game on an 8-1 run.
The Eagles' long stretch of scoring continued into the next set as they began the competition ahead, 13-2, and later – 17-4 – before notching the set's last eight points. Fast forwarding to the middle of the third stanza, where Reinhardt again found itself with a big lead (14-7) before going on cruise control and getting some much-needed playing time for the bench.
The dominant duo of Erinn Marroquin (15 assists; 3 aces) and Carlee Baxter (12 assists; 1 ace) again played a crucial role in controlling the flow of the offense for the Eagles.
